This quilt began as a beautiful piece of ombre fabric.  I sketched the shape in pencil on the top fabric and layered different batik fabrics beneath it.  After creating channels by machine quilting, I cut through the top fabric into the layers of the material below showing various colors at different  areas of the butterfly.  I also put a thin piece of sheer fabric in some places to give the iridescence of a butterfly wing. A quick swish in the washer and dryer ruffled the edges to reveal the colors below.
