AH HA Herringbone III
In Collaboration with Rita Joseck
Materials Melted synthetic fabric, cardboard cylinder
Technique
Quilted melted synthetic fabric appliquéd to a background fabric and glued onto a cardboard cylinder. A thin sliver of rock provided the color scheme and added it’s own melody to the composition. I am fascinated by the repetition of stripes coming together as they move across the surface in their own rhythms. In this piece, I quilted the lower area in the same direction as the colors and fabric flowed. In the upper third, I changed the angle of the stitches creating an opposing force as the energy rebounded and reconnected with the original flow of the stripes. The idea of separating and reassembling elements brings a certain dynamism to this third Herringbone quilt.

Spicebush Swallowtail
This quilt began as a beautiful piece of ombre fabric. I sketched the shape in pencil on the top fabric and layered different batik fabrics beneath it. After creating channels by machine quilting, I cut through the top fabric into the layers of the material below showing various colors at different areas of the butterfly. I also put a thin piece of sheer fabric in some places to give the iridescence of a butterfly wing. A quick swish in the washer and dryer ruffled the edges to reveal the colors below. 40" x 40"
This premiered at the Texas Quilt Museum in LaGrange, TX and is part of the traveling show.
Available - $2,000

Sunset Moth Wing
The macro view of a butterfly wing shows scales much like those of a fish. The Sunset Moth Wing is a blaze of color and rhythm with its bright plumage. I cut individual shapes from many sheer fabrics and appliquéd them to a quilt backing in rows similar to the way they appear on the moth. The gossamer petals float just above the surface and reflect and refract the light around them. 23" x 40"
Available - $1,380 plus shipping,

About Text Messages
Using only the letters in my title, About Text Messages, I scrambled the letters to symbolize what can happen between the sender and the receiver. I used the negative spaces behind the letters for the forms at the topof the quilt to indicate what can be read between the lines. The echo quilting lines show the continued effects any message can cause as it ripples out into the ether. 24" x 31"
This quilt premiered at International Quilt Festival Houston and has traveled for three years in the Text Messages Show sponsored by SAQA.
Available - $1,800 plus shipping
